1. Royalty Free License 

Is a one-time fee or subscription that grants non-exclusive use of an image/resource according to the terms of the agreement. Typically, can be used multiple times for multiple projects without incurring additional fees. Ownership of the license is granted to one person and may not be transferable.

2. Rights Managed License 

Images/Resources are licensed on a use-by-use basis. The fee for using the image is calculated from several factors including size, placement, duration of use and geographic distribution. Typically includes exclusive use of the resource.

3. Sample Before Purchasing 

Download the stock photo's free sample while developing your project. This allows you to mix and match photos without incurring a cost. Only purchase the photo after you have completed the final draft of your design.

4. Choosing the Right File Size 

Stock photography vendors sell images in several file sizes: Small, Medium and Large. Small file size is meant for the web and other types of digital media. Medium or Large file sizes have higher resolution / dpi and is meant for print based media.

5. Editing Images 

Graphic editing tools are needed to modify images or photos. Adobe Photoshop and Jasc Paint Shop Pro are great all around tools for manipulating graphics.

6. Shop Around 

The right photo can make all the difference in the world. Do your homework to ensure you have found the right photo at the best possible price.

7. Seek Opinions & Advice 

Ask co-workers, friends and family their opinion on stock photos. The input they can provide will help narrow down your list of stock photo choices.
